Meity has notified “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012” mandating 15 categories of electronics items under the Compulsory Registration Scheme of Department of Consumer Affairs based on their compliance to Indian safety standards. This scheme has come into effect on 03rd July 2013. Meity added 15 more categories in Phase II (circular issued on 7th November 2014) and again expanded the product category with 13 more categories in phase III (circular issued on 17th August 2017)

Required Documents & Information at the time of Application for BIS Registration
- Legal Registration proof of Indian Representative (IR) (Company/Firm Registration Copy, Tax Registration Copy, Factory license, MSME certificate etc )
- Brand Authority Letter (If Indian representative is brand owner then IR will authorize Manufacturer to use their brand name in IR’s letterhead)
- Brand Declaration (If brand is not registered in India then , then manufacturer/brand owner have to give an declaration that they do not have liaison office or registered user in India )
- ID & Address proof of signing authority from IR
- ID & Address proof of signing authority from IR
Required Initial Documents For Lab Testing Report
- Company Legal Proof (Manufacturer) (Company/Firm Registration Copy, Tax Registration Copy etc of Manufacturer and details of Indian Partner in case of Import)
- Brand Name of Product (Trade Mark registration certificate/ Applied for copy)
- Technical Details of Product (PCB Layout, Circuit Diagram, Adaptor Layout, CB Report, Manuals, BOM, Safety Critical Components’ Test Report* etc)
- Samples of Product(Sample of product for Lab Testing)
